Our Convertible Remote Top has been discussed on Jaguarforums.com and other Jaguar forums. Here are some of the unsolicited comments:
"I installed my kit today. It works flawlessly. I had emailed whitexkr because on my car, one of the last two wires to connect was not on the connector he said in the instructions. It turns out I guess that on my car (2004 XK8), the wire needed was in a different location. Steve said he would update the instructions. It took me 2.5 hours to complete, and everything worked first time! Great job Steve, and the product looks to be very high quality! Thank you!"
"Had mine installed on Saturday. It's the coolest thing. Hit the remote in the house and the top is down when I get to my car. After taking off the boot cover I hit the remote and walk away from my car like James Bond or somebody as the top is closing. How cool is that?"
"I have one of WhiteXKR's modules in my '04, it's great! "
"Last night was the public premiere of my new remote control convertible top! My wife and I went to see the "Cowboys and Aliens" movie. I was looking forward to hitting the buttons on the remote and having the top close behind me while I casually walked away without even looking back. We drove right past the line of people in front of the theater and everyone was gawking at my car. It was freshly washed and sparkling in the lights from the marquee. There was actually an end spot available, so I took that and got out of the car to remove the cover. My wife popped the clip on her side of the car so I didn't have to walk around, then I rolled it up and placed it in the trunk. As my wife came over to walk with me to the theater, I hit the buttons and started walking away. I could hear the windows moving, so I knew it was working without even looking back. Then my wife said "Aren't you going to put up the top?" I told her that it was going up, so she stopped to watch it. Everyone in the line was looking at us. I told her "It's going to close, don't worry about it, let's go!" but she wanted to stand there and make sure it closed all the way. It did, of course, but I didn't get to look like James Bond."
"Mine arrived in the UK on Saturday and was fitted the same day.I could not be happier. I took it to a regional Jaguar Enthusiasts Club event today and I must have had to give details of the website to almost every XK8/R cabrio owner there. Plus I have posted it on the clubs XK8 bulletin board. So whiteXKR may have to increase production ....sorry Steve.... but its far too good a modification to keep a secret."
"Thanks to Sam's video and Steve's RTC module with good instructions, I got this done today on my wife's XKR. I had one plastic holder on the small speaker break, and one on the door card. Neither has caused a problem, and both still fit snug. All told, it took me 4 hours to do. Now, it would take about 2 hours, maybe less."
"I also installed this product this afternoon. It took about 3 hours. The instructions and product are first class. One of the best aftermarket products I have installed. Great Job WhiteXKR, we all owe you one."
"Have put a new mod on the car on Saturday. A remote operated hood module. The one on “youtube”. First point this mod is easy, youtube makes it look hard. The longest bit is getting the door card off.In the box you get
the control module, a wiring harness and all the parts needed to complete it.
One of the best bits are the posi-locks that allow you to break in to the wiring loom without any soldering or crimping. They are the dog’s b****ks. Will give you a lots of info. Steve’s a helpful guy and knows his stuff. As you may
know I also have the auto rear window mod and it work with this also. There’s good build instructions and a comprehensive operational test, and safety tests to ensure the unit is working. In short the operation is by pushing the headlight and then the lock or unlock buttons in quick succession on the remote. With the ability to stop/reverse the operation at any moment. I am well chuffed with the mod and used it a few times already in the two days."
"I have also just installed the remote fob hood module. It took me just under 4 hours to install but that was partly due to copious amounts of tea & neighbours popping out for a nosey chat! The instructions were
excellent & comprehensive. The only real problem I had was getting the fuse box unlocked. However after a quick look at the YouTube video, problem solved!
Everything you need arrives in the box down to the excellent posi-locks, small cable ties, velcro & the module itself which is rather impressive especially when you come to test it all & various check lights light up.
It all worked correctly straight away, my only concern was whether the double lock still works but after pressing the head light button followed by 2 presses of the lock button, I had the the 'beep' followed by the roof closing.
Very impressive!
All in all I think this an excellent modification, pretty easy to install thanks to very good instructions backed up by a YouTube clip"
"His cable is of high quality and he has clearly spent a lot of time both researching and making them. It has taken me six months to get rid of my satnav and replace it with the gauges and in this time I have done a lot of research myself. I had almost given up on the whole project because of the unavailability of this harness,"
"Once again amazed and impressed. Great job!"
"This is a very useful conversion and a benefit to the XK8 community."
"I finally had time to do this conversion. It went very quickly thanks for your excellent work and clear instructions."
"Evening, All. In my opinion, Jaguar made two mistakes with the otherwise extremely lovely X100 [XK8 / XKR]convertibles:
1. The standard exhaust is too quiet and robs the driver of the excitement of hearing his/her beautiful V8, and
2. They missed off the button to remotely raise or lower the hood from the standard remote.
Now, I solved fault number one on my car some 7 months ago by judicious application of a lovely stainless steel sports exhaust system from Quicksilver (other sports exhausts are available). She now sounds like a proper
rip-snorting GT. Beautiful. Today I plugged the final, glaring hole in my P&J's feature list by installing the remote hood kit supplied by The Jag Wrangler (http://www.thejagwrangler.com) and, after only three hours of fiddling around in the drivers door, wheel well and engine bay, I was done. Two key presses (headlights followed immediately by unlock) and the car not only unlocks, she drops her top and windows alluringly as if I was already standing alongside her with the key twisted in the lock, looking bored. By the time I close the front door of my house, walk to the car and open the door, we're good to go for some wind-in-the-hair fun. Similarly, on my return from a blast through the country lanes looking suitably windswept and interesting, I merely exit the car, press headlamp-lock on the remote and stroll away to the house with nary a backward glance, safe in the knowledge that the P&J is taking care of all that locking-and-hood-raising malarkey.
Priceless.
If you're wondering whether this mod is worth doing; it is. Massively. If you're wondering if it's a DIY fitment; it is. So long as you're reasonably practical, the instructions are clear and concise and you shouldn't go far wrong."
